VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN PREVENTION PROGRAMMING GUIDE

Match your programme to your timeframe

Decision-making guides

One of the biggest challenges faced in the EVAW field is the short time frames of much of the funding allocated and the pressure, nonetheless, to achieve substantive impacts in terms of preventing violence against women.

However, evidence and practice-based learning across contexts shows that a minimum of 3 years is required to implement and evaluate a primary prevention programme (once the design is completed) for it to have an impact on reducing VAW prevalence.

In terms of programme design and adaptation to the context, a 2-month inception phase is recommended to ensure that the design is relevant and optimised for the beneficiaries and context.

Nonetheless, there are useful contributions that donors can make in shorter time frames to contribute towards prevention in the longer term.

Ultimately, your decisions will be guided by the time and resources you have (where these are prescribed) and/or your ability to put together a proposal and negotiate for a certain time and budget.
