VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN PREVENTION PROGRAMMING GUIDE

How does VAW prevention work deliver country-level priorities?

Checklists

EVAW is also likely to be a priority of your partner government and of women of different backgrounds in your context. The following questions will help you assess this.

National government priorities

– Has the government signed global and regional conventions on VAW?
– Are there laws to criminalise VAW?
– Does the government have policy commitments on VAW and VAW prevention?
– Which government bodies are responsible for VAW work?  National and sub-national level? What are their mandates?
– Is there currently a political will to make progress on EVAW and specifically on prevention?
– Does the government allocate funding for VAW prevention?
– What is the current staff capacity and VAW prevention technical expertise in government bodies?

Women’s priorities

– What evidence is there about women’s priorities in your country context?
– How are diverse women affected by violence given their various identities and statuses?
– Are there women’s rights organisations and activists working on VAW prevention? What are their priorities for prevention and why?
