Understand your context and capacity for prevention programming

Context matters; this is why, in this section, we present you with tools and resources to help you understand your programming context. There is ample evidence to support how contextual research will help improve the relevance and effectiveness of VAW prevention in that specific context.

Here, we define what contextual research means and its objectives that are directly applicable to your VAW prevention programme. There is also guidance on collecting and analysing data to understand your programming context better.

We have provided you with some questions to answer to help you understand the national and institutional context within which you implement your programme.

The social-ecological framework is a specific analytical tool discussed in this section that will help unpack how violence increases and decreases in a specific context and the risk factors for violence operating across people and contexts relevant to your VAW prevention programme.

Lastly, this section has some tools you can use to assess your own organisational context – your organisational position and capacity to work on VAW prevention.
